HUME, David] - Brief exposition of the dispute which arose between M. Hume and M.
Rousseau, with supporting documents. London, 1766. In-12, XIV, 127 pp. half-fauve from the ep,
lacks at the upper cover.
Hume sent to his friends in Paris, urged by d'Alembert, an account of his disagreements with
Rousseau. The latter, who had taken refuge in England on his invitation, had not been slow to make
on his protector. The English part of the text was translated by J. B. Suard. Later Hume
published an English edition under the title: A Concise and Genuine Account of the Dispute between Mr. Hume and Mr. Rousseau.
Hume and Mr. Rousseau. Contains 6 letters from Rousseau to Hume including the very important one dated
Wootton on July 10, 1766 (pages 46 to 117). Rousseau summarizes the history of the relations between the two
