FANELLI Francesco. (Florence 1577-1657). (Attributed to). "Prancing horse". Bronze with black patina representing a prancing horse with its head slightly bent to the right. The right foreleg broken with old restoration. Slight oxidation of patina due to age at the base of the tail. On a marble base. H.17,5cm (without the base). H.total 27,5 L.23. Provenance : Arcade Gallery, London. Collection Helmut Gernsheim, London and Lugano, acquired from the above gallery. Certificates : The attribution to Francesco Fanelli was made by a Sotheby's expert in September 1997 according to the owner. There is also an expertise of John Pope-Hennessy (London 1913 - 1994 Florence). Director of the Victoria and Albert- Museums 1967-1973 then of the British Museum 1974-1976. Certificate Brusels Art Laboratory - Patrick Laycock of the analysis of the bronze, micro-X-fluorescence of May 1, 2013 from which it emerges that this bronze can be dated from the sixteenth to seventeenth.
