ROCCATAGLIATA Nicolo (Genoa 1570-Venice after 1640) (Workshop). "Cavallo al Passo". Sculpture in bronze with rich brown patina. Ep.end XVIè. H.without the base 14. H.22 L.18. Nicolo Roccatagliata was mainly active in Venice, influenced by the mannerism of Sansovino, Campagna and Vittoria. The model is inspired by the horse of the equestrian monument of Marcus Aurelius in Campiglio in Rome, it is particularly faithful in the details of the saddlery. Another example of this bronze is in the collections of the Museum - Fondation Bemberg in Toulouse. However it is attributed to the workshop of Severo da Ravenna and illustrated in the Fondation Bemberg - Bronzes de la Renaissance Italienne - Philippe Cros p.40 and 41. Ed. Somogy 1996.
