PRIEUR Barthélémy. (1536-1611). (Follower of). " Prancing horse with braided mane ". On a later wooden base with marble inserts. Northern Italy or France. Ep.XVIIè. H.21 without base. L.23 H.total 35cm. This model is comparable to some of Barthelemy Prieur's horse models showing similar knots in the tail and mane, similar positions of the forelimbs, the reddish patina is also characteristic of some bronzes from his workshop. This bronze is a reduction of the same prancing horse, part of the Rothschild donation to the Louvre. The Louvre has not attributed this bronze, but it is dated to the 17th century. (Attached is a certificate of metal analysis confirming that the composition of the bronze of our subject is compatible with a 17th century work.)
