COLIMA DOG. Superb young dog sitting on his hindquarters with his ears and tail erect, his mouth open showing his powerful teeth, indicates that he is in a guarding position. His face shows the beautiful determined expression of a young mischievous and playful dog. A pouring neck on the top of the head was probably used for ritual libations. Orange and coffee-red terra cotta, scattered traces of manganese oxide, the tip of a broken paw stuck, very good general state of conservation. Colima, western Mexico, 100 BC to 250 AD. Dimensions : 31,5x38x19cm. Provenance : Former Abraham & Jean Sterr collection, Usa, constituted in the 1960s.
