IMPORTANT REPRESENTATION of a bodhisattva seated in the position of "royal relaxation" (rajalilasana), on the back of a lion or a qilin with its head raised lying on a rock. The bodhisattva most frequently represented sitting on a lion is Wenshu / Manjushri, but certain aspects of Guanyin / Avalokiteshvara are also sometimes associated with this animal. A cavity in the back must have served to house a form of consecration. Wood with remains of various layers of polychromy, old accidents and visible missing parts. China Qing dynasty. H.108 cm. Provenance : French private collection. Expert : Jean-Luc ESTOURNEL.
