Note :
Jacques Davy du Perron (1556-1618) spent his youth in Switzerland where his Calvinist parents had taken refuge. He came to Paris in 1576, abjured Protestantism and obtained the position of reader for Henri III, which allowed him to give free rein to his erudite and poetic works. Thereafter, Henri IV gave him the bishopric of Evreux. His qualities as a controversialist and diplomat made him appointed French ambassador in Rome before becoming archbishop of Sens (1606) and member of the Regency Council (1610).
