DENON Dominique Vivant (1747 - 1825) - "Essay in pencil and pen [Holy Family in Egypt]". 1809. Original lithograph and autograph in pencil and pen. Ref: Béraldi n°1. I.F.F. n°2. Winkler n°151. Nice proof on wove paper, annotated, dated and signed in stone: " fait à la lithographie de Munich / le 15 9bre 1809 Denon ". Large margins. "Dominique Vivant Denon, Minister of Arts of Napoleon, had throughout his career an artistic practice, passing by drawing and engraving. Thanks to his discovery of lithography in the workshop of Aloys Senefelder in Munich in 1809, he experimented with this still confidential reproduction technique. The subject, a Rest during the Flight to Egypt, allowed him to set up a landscape in pencil and lithographic pen" (Source: Cabinet des estampes de Strasbourg).
