A recurring motif in Bernard Buffet's work, the still life with flowers remains a great subject of classical painting. Symbol of sorrow, the marigold has swarmed its small yellow-orange flowers, here hemmed in by heterogeneous vegetation in cold colors. Dominating the composition, they catch the eye of those who cross them. In this work painted by Bernard Buffet in 1976, the only source of light emanates from the bouquet itself, attracting the curiosity of the viewer. The balance of the composition oscillates between the warm nuances of the canvas, supported by a soft beige background, contrasted by the incisive greens and blacks of the brush, characteristic of the artist.
