MONET (Claude). Autograph letter signed to the art critic Arsène Alexandre. Giverny (Eure), May 14, 1904. 1 p. in-12, letterhead printed at his address of Giverny. "I would like to express to you ALL MY THANKS FOR THE SO ELOGICAL ARTICLE THAT YOU HAVE CONSIDERED ME IN THE FIGARO and of which I was very touched, believe it well. Thank you again and believe in my cordial sympathy... P.S. I don't need to remind you that if you pass by Giverny, you will always be welcome at my place. THE " VUES DE LA TAMISE A LONDRES " : Claude Monet exhibited this series of paintings at the Durand-Ruel gallery in Paris from May 9 to June 4, 1904, and Arsène Alexandre published a vibrant eulogy in Le Figaro on May 8, 1904, entitled " The Thames, by Claude Monet " : " [...] The work is prodigious. there is no other word. It is among the most exceptional, the most moving of Claude Monet's works. Never has he gone further and it goes further than painting. It is a fairy tale of atmosphere and light. London appears fantastic in its dreamy mists, colored by the magic of the sun [...] Critics have little to do on such occasions. Its role is simply to watch and to point out such an exhibition as one of the most important artistic events of our time.
