MIRÓ (Joan). 2 letters to the painter and engraver Jean Signovert. 1951-1952. - Autograph letter signed. S.l., May 8, 1951. "My dear friend, we thought with Maeght and Clayeux [Louis Clayeux, artistic director of Aimé Maeght's gallery] that the printing of the engraved plates in New York is preferable, [and] should be done by an intaglio printer, because it is only a craft work. With you, I feel that one should work on copperplates started from the beginning together, to achieve a good result. I HAVE A LOT OF IDEAS THAT I RESERVE TO REALIZE WITH YOU. IT WOULD BE NECESSARY FOR ME TO HAVE A PRESS WITH A PLACE TO SET IT UP, I have spoken to Maeght about it and I ask you to be so kind as to inform Maeght of it, if the opportunity arises... ". (2 pp. in-8 oblong, small cracks at the fold). - Signed letter. Barcelona, January 8, 1952. "I was happy to receive your good news and to learn that you can have a room and a good press. For the time being, I DO NOT INTEND TO START NEW BOARDS UNTIL THOSE I HAVE STARTED IN NEW YORK ARE FIXED, and [that] the printing, which requires a very direct intervention of me, is not completely finished. Remember that when I proposed to you to print these plates, you felt, quite rightly, that you preferred to print brass plates started from the beginning with your collaboration. I HATE, ME AUSSII, TO BEGIN A SERIES OF RESEARCH WITH YOU, which, I am convinced, will be of the greatest interest..." (1 p. in-folio typewritten; splits at folds and one margin slightly trimmed).
