LUCE (Maximilian). Autograph letter signed ILLUSTRATED WITH AN ORIGINAL SIGNED DRAWING, addressed to his son Frédéric, also a painter. S.d., "Wednesday" [1918]. 2 pp. in-8 square. "My old Fred, we are still waiting for you impatiently. Received a letter from Signac. He was supposed to go to Paris to put his paintings in a safe place, but he could not make the trip, he was taken by an asthma attack which has confined him to the Midi. I am thinking of going there one of these days and he must give me instructions to try to park his paintings. I will take advantage of this to arrange mine a little too. We have had a little water, but so little, the peasants want it very much because everything is really dry, especially in the gardens. I went to Vétheuil the other day, and also to La Roche-Guyon, they are beautiful countries. We'll take these walks when you're here and WE'LL GO TO SEE MONET TOGETHER... [PAUL] SIGNAC HAS SENT ME A Sketch AFTER TURNER WHICH HE BELIEVES TO REPRESENT ROLLEBOISE [in the present Yvelines department, where Maximilien Luce settled at the end of his life], this seems to me to be quite probable although Turner introduced a bridge and there is none, but he often allowed himself these fantasies which I approve of, incidentally... We both give you a big hug. Your old father Luce... LUC-ALBERT MOREAU WAS WOUNDED in the stomach and hand [wound received in June 1918]. Limoges Hospital..." Maximilien Luce also asks for news of their relatives. THE DRAWING REPRESENTS A WATERFRONT LANDSCAPE (full page, graphite and ink wash highlights), with autograph mention: "Le bonjour de Veillet & de Zuko", allusion to friends including the painter Alfred Veillet, also settled in Rolleboise.
