The young Eugène Delacroix entered in October 1806 the imperial Lycée, now the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, where, despite the quasi-military discipline that reigned there, he received with interest and profit an education essentially based on the humanities. He would draw abundantly from this classical culture during his artistic career.
