VIETNAM - About 1900 Large screen in wood and mother-of-pearl inlays with central decoration of Notre-Dame de Saigon cathedral and two coats of arms, one of which is that of Pope Pius IX and the other of Vice-Admiral VIctor Duperré (1825-1900) governor of Cochinchina from 1874 to 1876, the sides and feet decorated with lotus flowers and foliage, dormouse in vines and tendrils, butterflies fluttering around peaches, pomegranates and peonies, auspicious symbols, animal and intertwined masks and a stylized 'shou' (longevity) character. Two mother-of-pearl inlaid inscriptions in Chinese characters (zhuanshu) indicating the date of 1877, the beginning of the construction of the cathedral, one in the Christian era and the other indicating "Jiading Cathedral (former name of Ho Chi Minh City)" and the date in the sexagesimal cycle.
