Born near Saigon, Lê Thy (Tran Minh Thi) studied between 1943 and 1945 in the preparatory classes of the Indochina School of Fine Arts in Hanoi, under the direction of Nam Son. Back in Saigon, he established his workshop and became one of the most sought-after lacquer artists in southern Vietnam. As the order form for this triptych indicates, his gallery was located at 146 rue Catinat and his workshops at 109 Quai de la Marne in Saigon. He presented his works in Europe and in Asia, during exhibitions where he represented Vietnam.
