A MASSIVE HIRADO CERAMIC PLANTER Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of circular form with inverted lip, decorated in underglaze blue with brown highlights, representing the Japanese phoenix hoho bird among clouds and flowers of paulownias and chrysanthemums. H : 35 x W : 54 cm Provenance : Countess de B. and her family, grand niece of Emile Senart (1827-1928), famous French sinologist and collector.
