DIDEROT Denis [Langres, 1713 - Paris, 1784], French writer. Autograph letter signed, addressed to M. Le Breton. 1 page in-12, address, and closing wax seal. "It seems to me, Sir, that the conclusion of our trade is only due to these English Dictionaries that are stubbornly refused to me and that you feel yourself that it is very ridiculous that I do not have. You promised to bring them to me in our last meeting. In your last letter, you propose them to me again. See, Sir, if you are in the same frame of mind, and if I can count on your word, which you know I have always kept. Please give me a word of reply; so that I may know what to do about the rest of a last treatise which I must see this afternoon at the home of M. L'abbé Sallier. I am very perfectly, Sir, your very humble and very [obedient] servant. Diderot." The red wax seal: It is a seal bearing a half-separated shield: to the dexter a rampant lion, to the sinister a crenellated tower with three battlements surmounting a motif that is difficult to identify; the shield being topped by a helmet bordered by arabesque fleurons to the dexter and sinister, which descend to the mid-course. " It can be found in the following letters (the references are those of the OEuvres complètes de Diderot (éd. DPV), t. 28, Paris, Hermann, forthcoming: Letters 1753-7 (Langres, Bibl. munic.
