First edition of this study on the origins of the Chinese Empire and the development of Confucianism, illustrated with 8 folded tables. Copy bearing the handwritten bookplate (repeated) of Countess Sophie Potocka (1760-1822). Former Greek slave and Russian agent, she was admired by Charles X, Louis XVIII, the Count du Barry, Prince Poniatowsky... She was the second wife of the Polish Count Stanislas Potocki (1752-1805), who founded an important library in Tulczyn. With the stamp Biblioteka Tulczynska.
