Lucien LÉVY-DHURMER (1865-1953), "Istanbul, in the background of Sainte-Sophie", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 64 x 45 cm. The work will be included in the catalog raisonné currently being prepared by Mr. Marc-Henri Tellier. It is inscribed on the stretcher "NOFFY, 72 Bd la Tour Maubourg". By family tradition, this painting would have been offered by the artist to the ancestors of the current owner. After a traditional education at the Beaux-Arts, Lévy-Dhurmer was hired as an ornamentalist in an earthenware factory in Golfe-Juan until 1895. From 1882, he presented his works at the Salon des Artistes Français, which earned him an exhibition at the Georges Petit gallery in 1896. He visited Turkey in 1906. His painting suggests feelings, emotions and an intimism which brings him closer to the "painters of the soul" of the Salon de la Rose-Croix: Hawkins, Maurin, Osbert. Expert : Marc OTTAVI
