Large in-8, contemporary binding in midnight blue chagrin, large rocaille style frame
composed of large scrolls with special irons, flowers, bird, lion, grotesques, spine decorated in long
gilt edges (Boutigny).
First edition and first printing.
Vignette on the title by Rouargue engraved on wood and 14 plates out of text with legends
engraved on steel after Harding, Prout and Bartlett.
A fine specimen typical of Boutigny's rocaille style bindings with the signature
included in a curved scroll at the bottom of the spine and its label on the first counterplate.
