Two large volumes in-8, contemporary bindings in blue glazed calf, double framed with gilded
gilt filets with corner fleurons on the boards, spine ribbed and decorated in the same way, inner lace,
gilt edges (Bauzonnet).
First printing.
Frontispiece in chromolithography, 22 engravings out of text, twelve on steel and ten on wood,
the latter drawn on chine appliqué, and two colored maps. Woodcut headpieces and initials
those of the Preliminary Discourse here finely heightened in colors and in gold. The text
of the gospels is framed by a woodcut border. Each evangelist is illustrated with a special
woodcut frontispiece, included in the pagination.
