Enc. s.XVIII leather with gilt wheels framing the plans, probably adjusted to this work; the gilt irons and their arrangement are remarkably similar to those of some Peruvian bindings of the mid-eighteenth century. Profus. Illustr. with engravings in the text, of astronomical character and maps; 4 movable figures (on folios: 8, 11, 31, 53) and two pieces for mobile on folio 54. A large folded world map between folios 34-35. The first two leaves are weak from use, handwritten annotations by a 17th century student. FIRST EDITION IN SPANISH. Fundamental work of cosmography and navigation, there were several editions. This first one is very appreciated when it contains the map of the world, as this copy, because it is one of the first in which the word AMERICA appears to refer to the continent.
