A very fine, warm, black impression, trimmed to the borderline. First state of two. In the second one, there is no more mention of Rubens' name.
Framed.
Under Rubens’s supervision, Christoffel Jegher made a woodcut reproducing the lost composition in reverse. The Corpus Rubianum mentions archival accounts indicating that Jegher’s woodcut was printed on the presses of the Plantin House in Antwerp between 1633 and 1636.
