In this painting of military theme, the horseman has been portrayed with psychological will. The countenance conveys the uncertainty and the meaninglessness of war. With a realistic language and expressive sensitivity, the painter has managed to capture one of those moments of recess in the middle of a battle, in which the soldiers wonder about the role assigned to them by the vagaries of history. The autumnal trees add a touch of melancholy to the scene.
