Alexandre Jean NOEL (Brie-Comte-Robert 1752-Paris 1834)
Galleon with three masts
Gouache.
Signed lower right on the barrel "Noel".
81,5 x 74 cm.
(Old restorations, scratches).
The large boat seen from the back right of the scene shows the stern of a French two-decker from the period of the revolutionary wars, 1793-1815, with a curved rail, like those of the Spanish. The walking gallery, which is quite prominent, runs across the width of the ship. As for the boat in profile on the right, it looks like a model developed around 1810.
