44-Nevers (probably)
Basket with two handles in earthenware imitating basketry. Polychromy of great fire yellow, brown, green, manganese simulating a decoration said in the natural. Probably serving as a support for a zoomorphic terrine in the shape of a hen (not present).
Period : end of the 18th century.
Condition: star at the bottom of the basket and a handle restored. Chips and chips.
Size : 39 x28.5 cm.
Remarks : This basket is to be compared with the "egg dish" in the shape of a hen called "couvisse" attributed to Nevers around 1780 in the collections of the Auguste-Grasset museum in Varzy and published by Mr Jean Rosen in " La faïence de Nevers 1585-1900. Tome 3", page 292. The basket presented here could perhaps correspond to the display of this hen! (LL)
