He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and then at the private workshop of Luc-Olivier Merson. He then joined the workshop of Jean-Paul Laurens and finally the Académie de la Palette.
He exhibited in Paris, from 1908, at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Artistes Indépendants. Member of the Royal Academy of London and the Royal Academy of Belgium. President of the Society of French painters-engravers, he realized nearly 1600 engraved works from 1919 to 1970.
