The giant star seen in this latest anniversary image from the Hubble Space Telescope is fighting a fierce battle between gravity and radiation to avoid self-destruction. The star, called AG Carinae, is surrounded by an expanding envelope of gas and dust. The nebula is about five light-years wide, which is equivalent to the distance to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri.Vintage chromogenic print.
