About the project to revive the Théâtre Lyrique in the Eden-Théâtre under the direction of Verdhurt; Chabrier hoped that Gwendoline would be performed there. "Well, dear friend, and these lawyers, and these solicitors, and these notaries, [...] and the casing! - And the signatures! Where is it all? [...] It must not be easy, at this time, to constitute a troupe, choirs, an orchestra; all that dances, sings and plays is dispersed and is scattered in the casinos and other absolutely delicious places ". Chabrier recommends Thibault who could play as 1st violin and serve as 2nd or 3rd conductor. "He is a man who has missed the boat to the big theaters, but he has qualities of vigor, he is a resourceful man, a little fat but with a grip. I believe that with the addition of the solid music played at the Conservatoire, he would easily be able to strip the conductor of operettas and that in the presence of a modern score he would not look too bad. In any case, he is very ardent, he has practice, I could say that he is practice, and in the genre th., even of sub, of quarter genre, I have always found him superior to his dark mission.
