Hans HARTUNG (1904-1989) is a German painter born in Leipzig. As early as 1922, when he was only 18 years old, the artist produced a series of watercolors that can be considered as his first abstract experiments. He moved to Paris in 1926 and very early in his career participated in numerous exhibitions. Hans HARTUNG belongs to the avant-garde of the 20th century, he is often declared as the leader of informal art. Among his friends are Pierre SOULAGES (born in 1919) and Zao WOU-KI (1921-2013). In 1960, the painter won the Grand Prix at the Venice Biennale. Several exhibitions have been devoted to him since his death. Among the most recent, it is possible to mention the retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris (October 11, 2019 - March 1, 2020), "Hans Hartung. La Fabrique du Geste".
