Alfred RETH (1884-1966) was a painter of Hungarian origin who settled in Paris in 1904. In 1910 and 1911, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and then participated in the cubist exhibition at the Der Sturm gallery in Berlin in 1913. In the 1920s, the painter turned to abstraction and was one of the precursors of this new artistic movement. Alfed RETH joined the Abstraction-Création group in 1931 alongside Jean ARP (1886-1966), Frantisek KUPKA (1871-1957), Auguste HERBIN (1882-1960)... In 1946, he also participated in the Salon des Réalités.
