45 x 60 cm.
Signed and dated lower left "Guillaumin agay 1914".

View from the bright yellow-orange shore on the turquoise and deep blue shimmering sea with a boat with a white sail. To the right on the shore some rust-brown boulders, while to the left rising from the sea a hill is visible in strong light to dark green as well as red-brown tones. Painting in the typical manner of the artist in strong color, in which the influences of Impressionism and Fauvism can be felt.
Armand Guillaumin attended the Académie Suisse painting academy from 1861. There he met Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro, with whom he remained lifelong friends. Together they were represented at the first Salon des Refusés in 1863. His later friends also included Vincent van Gogh. He showed his paintings in the exhibitions of the Impressionist group (between 1874 and 1886). His works are characterized mainly by the fast spontaneous painting style of the Impressionists and are known for an intense, bright coloring, as is the case with the work presented here.
The artist attended the Académie Suisse from 1861. There he met Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) and Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) with whom he remained lifelong friends. His later friends also included Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and his brother, the art dealer Theo van Gogh (1857-1891), who sold some of his works (†).
