Coquelicots et marguerites
Oil on canvas.
46 x 33 cm.
Signed "Vlaminck" on the lower left.
In ostentatious frame.
In a ceramic vase standing on the ground or on a plate, a magnificent, bright and contrasting bouquet of white daisies, red corn poppies and yellow-orange flowers against a flowing, yellowish orange background with punctual spots set in green, which remains white in the lower left area. The clearly visible brushstroke is generous and spontaneous, with partly pastose color application. The bouquet with its fresh colors radiates a special liveliness. Typical work for the well-known artist. Important French painter of modernism in the circle of French artists who worked mainly in close friendship with André Derain (1880-1954) and initiated the emergence of Fauvism. As a Post-Impressionist, he was temporarily mentored by the gallerist Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler. 1955 participant in documenta 1 in Kassel. 2008 Appreciation of his works through an exhibition at the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris.
