Route ombragée, Saint-Tropez Oil on hardboard. 32,5 x 45,5 cm. Signed lower right "H. Lebasque". In Louis XV style frame. Attached an expertise of Denise Bazetoux, author of the catalog raisonné, dated 21.12.1944. Summer atmosphere with an avenue consisting of pollarded willows and leading in a loose sweep to the center of the picture, where it ends for us visually in a shaded tree growth, creating a strong contrast to the light and shadow games of the foreground consisting of partly bright colors. The work offered here was created near Saint Tropez, where Lebasque often spent the summer months and sometimes worked together with Pierre Bonnard. In 1924 he settled permanently in the village of Le Cannet, although our painting can already be dated to around 1895. Provenance: Madame Lebasque. Galerie du Drap d'Or, Cannes. Collection M. Djahanjuiri. Auction Paul Renoud, Paris, November 30, 1994, lot 55. Literature: This painting is illustrated in the catalog raisonné: Denise Bazetoux, Henri Lebasque, Catalogue Raisonné, vol. I, p. 69, fig. 61. (1331184) (13).
