Company in front of Roman villa
Oil on canvas.
110 x 180 cm.
Signed, place-noted and dated "P. GABRINI ROMA MXMXVI" lower left.
In gilded frame.
In the open vestibule of a magnificent Roman villa with columns and a mosaic inlaid in the floor on a carpet with three stools, the seated master of the house in white tunic, next to him a standing woman in light blue robe with red cloak and golden hair ornament and another seated lady. Behind them other figures in Roman-antique clothing, probably listening attentively and admiringly to the explanations of the man standing on the left. He points with hand gestures to an oversized sculpture with a horse, which stands outside the room on a rectangular pedestal. In the foreground on the left, standing on the floor, is a golden bowl filled with pink and red roses, a few of which are lying on the floor. In the background on the left, passing a vase with an agave on the parapet of the house, the view falls on a landscape with towering pine trees, just shone by the sun. Painting rich in detail with rich interior decoration, indicating a wealthy Roman couple. Few small retouchings. (1301328) (18)
