View of the Grand Canal shimmering through the moonlight with a few gondolas and two larger sailing ships. In the foreground the wide riverside road with numerous staffage figures, two dogs and a small bridge leading to the Punta della Dogana and the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute with its large domes. At the edge of the bank a reddish glowing street lamp and various reddish lights from the buildings, around the magnificent church.
