Evening landscape with boy lying on the ground Oil on canvas. 74,5 x 134 cm. In wide landscape, in front of a tree stump, the lying boy in blue-white and reddish clothes, resting his head on the hand of his right elbow and holding with his left hand a black hat with a red ribbon. In front of him standing on the ground a woven large basket and a branch with a yellow-reddish shining fruit. On the right side a tied vine with grapes, in front of the view of a wide landscape with blue sky, in the light of the setting sun. Note: A comparable work by the artist with a reclining shepherd boy and a wicker basket was auctioned at Christie's on December 12, 2001 under lot 79. It is known about the Danish-born painter who moved to Rome that he worked in the workshop of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) in Amsterdam in 1642-1644 and came to Venice in 1651. During his travels between Venice, Bergamo and Milan, he devoted himself to various genres of painting, especially portraiture, portraying Queen Christina of Sweden, who was staying in Ravenna at the time.
