THE HOLY FAMILY WITH THE HOLY HIERONYMUS AND A BISHOP Oil on wood. 94 x 73 cm. The group of figures densely packed and brought close to the viewer. In the center of the picture dominates the red in the dress of Mary, her gaze is directed to the kneeling lower right, bearded bishop, who is possibly the donor of the work. Saint Joseph at upper right, leaning on a staff, looking at the child sitting on the mother's knee, with both little hands and gaze turned toward the bishop. Behind it, in the upper left, Jerome, bearded rendered, has placed his right hand on the child's shoulder. Thus, the composition is deliberately set up in a kind of intertwining of the figures as a whole and with each other. The tranquility in the complicated interweaving of persons occurs through the heads of the saints composed exactly next to each other, resulting in a compositional consolidation in the upper part of the picture, while below, the movement of the child towards the bishop creates a diagonal relationship and thus a vivification. Similar compositional forms can be found in the depiction of the Holy Family by Innocenzo da Imola (c. 1490-c. 1545), whose works are very close to the present painting. Stylistically, the name Girolamo Imparato (c. 1550-1607) could also be mentioned here. (13303415) (2) (11) Luca Longhi, 1507 Ravenna - 1580, attributed THE HOLY FAMiLY WITH SAINT JEROME AND A BISHOP Oil on panel. 94 x 73 cm. The group of figures is depicted in a tight and close-up composition. Similar compositions of the Holy Family are also known by Innocenzo da Imola (ca. 1490-ca. 1545), whose works are close to the painting on offer for sale in this lot. The style of the painting could also suggest Girolamo Imparato (ca. 1550-1607).
