Patinated terracotta sculpture
Reduced-scale sketch made in patinated terracotta of the "Monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus" in the city of Palencia, popularly known for its location as "Cristo del Otero". The iconography of the work is that of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with the peculiarity of having his hands outstretched in an attitude of blessing the city at his feet. The influence of art deco and cubism can be seen in its style, with a powerful monumentality that recalls the public works of antiquity. This monumentality and the large size of the final sculpture allow its relationship with other iconic colossal statues with a Christological theme such as "Christ the Redeemer" of Rio de Janeiro or the "Christ of Concord" of Cochabamba.
