O.B. paperback (somewhat browned and stained and lightly bumped). With 18 full page color illustrations. Original paperback (somewhat browned and stained and lightly bumped). - First edition, rare. First edition, rare. Bilderwelt 1871 - designed and printed by the socialist publishing collective at Basis Verlag Birnstiel, Reinke, Schilling. - The fist raised upwards as a symbol of the working class fighting against the capitalists and the big bourgeoisie appears regularly in anti-authoritarian German picture books of this period. It draws attention to the precarious situation of the working people and invites the child reader to sympathize with the working class struggle for freedom, solidarity, and equality. The simple drawings reference contemporary political poster art and are consistent with the ideological yet propagandistic message: people must unite to change unsatisfactory social and political conditions. - Paper browned.
