Notes These works were made by the artist with gouache colored papers, cut with scissors, and glued. They are presented here with drawings executed at the same time or during the previous period. Matisse composed the cover especially for this volume. These lithographic plates were printed during 1954 under his direction. The printing of the lithographs in color by Mourlot Frères and the printing of the gravure reproductions and the typography by the master printers Draeger Frères, was completed in Paris on July 28, 1958.
