Mémoire relatif à la construction d'une poudrière et extraits de rapports de l'Académie d'architecture. Paris 1771-1774 Folio: [20] ff. on paper, in French (large wetness on spine). Br. Memorandum written following "the disastrous event that happened in Abbeville" which made Marie-Joseph Peyre (1730-1785), architect to the king, think "that it was possible to build a gunpowder magazine that in case of fire would cause the least possible damage to the cities and the inhabitants". It also contains a comparison of the expenses between a typical project issued in the past by Vauban and the new one, certified copies of the opinions of members of the academy of architecture on this project as well as a plan of the new powder magazine and a profile of it. The latter document signed for reception by Condorcet (Jean-Antoine-Nicolas Caritat, Marquis de), Permanent Secretary of the Academy, on 10 January 1774.
