Born in Marseille, Edouard-Jacques Dufeu went to Paris in 1860, where he apprenticed with the well-known still-life painter Antoine Vollon (1833-1900). Dufeu worked as a drawing teacher at various Parisian schools and between 1865 and 1890 he exhibited regularly at the "Salon des artistes français".
