CARSTIAN LUYCKS (1623 Antwerp after 1658) Still life with deck of cards and coral. Oil on canvas. 34.4 × 44 cm. Provenance: European collection. The works of the Antwerp-born painter Carstian Luyckx, later active in France, from whose œuvre mainly vanitas still lifes are known, were formerly attributed to the French painter Simon Renard de Saint-André (c. 1613-1677), which could be refuted by Dr. Fred G. Meijer. The still life offered here has a particularly high decorative value and stands out due to its original composition of still life elements in the oeuvre of this fascinating artist. Dr. Fred G. Meijer confirms the autograph after examining the original, for which we thank him.
