BRÜGGE, c. 1560-70
Triptych.
Oil on wood.
109 × 75.8 cm (central panel).
105.3 × 30 cm each (light measure, side panels).
Provenance:
European collection.
This triptych was probably created in Bruges in the second half of the 16th century. Probably two artists were involved, as the side panels are stylistically different from the central panel. A possible author of the side panels would be Pieter Claeissens the Younger (1535-1623) (see Maximiliaan P. J. Martens (ed.): Bruges et la Renaissance: de Memling à Pourbus, Ghent 1998).
We thank Prof. Frédéric Elsig for his scientific assistance in cataloguing this painting.
