Born in 1926 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Jacob Jensen left school at the age of thirteen to train as an upholsterer. Bored, the young Jensen began experimenting with designs for everyday objects and enrolled at the end of the 1940s at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. In 1951, he began working for Bernadotte & Bjørn, Denmark's first industrial design studio. There he designed utensils. Shortly after setting up his own studio in 1958, he began working for Bang & Olufsen, which became the leading design and sound company during the three decades he designed for them.
