In-12°. Full contemporary marbled calf. Spine with 5 nerves decorated with gilded caissons and fleurons. Title piece in red morocco, tomato piece in havana morocco. Triple gilt fillet framing the boards. Sides of the book are speckled. Headbands are damaged. Freckles and small spots here and there. Tear without missing in the margin of p.65 of volume I. A handwritten note (early 19th century) in the margin of p. 239 of volume II.
According to Tchémerzine, true first edition decorated with an identical vignette (Cupid pulling the curtain of a canopy bed) on each title and 7 engravings including the frontispiece captioned " L'imagination prendoit la plume des mains de la folie, et l'amour lui dictoit ", placed here before the 1st chapter.
