Mining plays an important role in the history of Saxony. With the mining of silver ore in important mining towns such as Freiberg, Annaberg and Marienberg in the Saxon Ore Mountains, the Electorate quickly rose to become an economically influential power as early as the 18th century. The scenic depictions on Meissen porcelain documenting this status made the electorate known beyond its borders as early as the 18th century. Cf. Fabian, Meissen porcelain with miner motifs, pp. 58ff; 124ff; Slotta, cat. Deutsches Bergmann-Museum, pp. 101f., 131, 40. Jedding, Meissen Porcelain, p. 136. A rare dated closed porcelain ensemble of a tea pot and six cups and saucer depicting scenes of the Saxon miner's life of the 18th C. painted probably by G. B. Häuer (Hoyer), including a saucer, dated 1748. On the bottom golden letter S. Insignificantly restored to the blossom lid. Minor rubbed. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1748.
