(NUMISMATICS / RUSSIA / STONE THE GREAT) "Medaillen geprägt auf die thaten Peter des Grossen". Iversen (Julius Gottlieb). Saint Petersburg, 1872. Large in-4 bound in full publisher's purple percaline, cold-stamped ornamentation, title stamped with hot irons. All edges gilt with gold bullion effect. (1ff) (XXVII) 66 pages (2 ff) followed by 12 black plates presenting several figures. Autograph address from the author on the first white endpaper to Henry William Waddington (1826-1894), politician, archaeologist and numismatist. Work in German language. One edge of board slightly faded, linear soiling on the extreme edges of the moiré endpapers, fine foxing not serious. Very rare first edition in its original publisher's cardboard. The author Mr. J. Iversen was chief curator of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg from 1879 and correspondent of the Belgian journal of numismatics and sigillography. Here is offered one of his most important numismatic contribution.
