Tapestry of Flanders, 16th century Technical characteristics : Wool and silk Dimensions : Height : 250cm ; Width : 210cm It is under the auspices of Mars, god of war, appearing in a radiant halo, that this royal scene takes place. We see a sovereign, dressed in antique style, sitting on a throne, resting himself on a carpet, listening attentively, as well as two venerable advisors, in toga and cuirass; a noble personage with a flowery beard (undoubtedly a general) drawing his sword in a bellicose sign. It seems that as Clausewitz said: "War is only the extension of politics by other means". This seems to be the case for this historical scene. Gallooned border. (Wear and maintenance restorations)
